As the title states, I've been stuck on this step since I installed BOINC and started the World Community Grid project. I know this step can take a while, but on my other box it never takes hours to complete this step. I searched the forum and found a few threads from years ago, but nothing recent, and there are a bunch of dead links on this forum now.

I know BOINC has been slowly dying for years, and that makes me sad, but I'm still trying to do my part donate my spare cycles for great causes. Any help I get will be greatly appreciated, so thank you in advance.

Not sure why you'd think that with 3.5 million individual users and some 12 million hosts out there.

But okay, so your BOINC says "Downloading work from server" and it doesn't? Any other messages? Did you allow the BOINC on that system through the firewall, specifically at TCP port 443? World Community Grid uses HTTPS to communicate with BOINC, so it requires that port 443 is available to the client.

Can you otherwise post a log with <http_debug> and <http_xfer_debug> set (in newer BOINC easily set through Options->Event Log options...)

"No messages intended to annoy or antagonize other people, or to hijack a thread."

You know, I'm here trying to help out and get this application running and the first response is a mod with some chip on their shoulder. Do we really need to argue over numbers? No, we absolutely don't. But that's the first thing you felt like we needed to do. It's nonsense like this that keeps less technically inclined people from engaging in communities such as this one.

As an admin/mod who enjoys arguing I'll let you have the last work and lock/delete the thread. I'll figure the problem out on my own. Have fun being the epitome of Comic Book Guy.

Shrug, if you do not want help, please don't take that out on me.

Once you come back to your senses, do look in this thread at World Community Grid, where Sekerob gives advice on how to circumvent possible stuck downloads on the WCG server.

And if it's not a .png file, go look on the transfers tab (or in the Event Log) and see what file is stuck.

If it's an executable file, chances are that it's being 'shielded' by your anti-virus product.

[on the simplistic assumption that you're running Windows - you didn't say]
