Running Windows 8 on Lenovo IdeaPad
BoincMAnager 7.7.6 x64

I'm not sure what "installing as a service" means in this context -- I downloaded BOINC from this website, along with VMBox.

I downloaded BOINC and manually added Seti@Home and World Community Grid. Those worked fine, but then I decided to register with BoincBAM to make it easier to add projects. BAM correctly shows the work my account has done in the two manually-added projects, but none of the new projects I added show up in BOINC and the BOINC Manager no longer gives me the option to add projects manually or to disconnect from BAM. I waited several days to see if it just took a while for things to update, but no change.

Today I tried uninstalling BOINC and VMBox and reinstalling, thinking I would connect to BAM from the start, but it automatically recognized my account and kept going as if I had never uninstalled it. Is there something else I need to uninstall? Is there some way to get it to talk to BAM correctly without reinstalling it?

Thanks for any help!

Check in the Tools menu, instead of the "Use account manager" you should see a "Synchronize with X" option. Click that for options for the account manager you're connected to.

I don't seem to have that option under Tools -- just "Add project" (though now I know how to do that; thanks!) and "Event Log". Should I be in Advanced View2

Ok, there it is in Advanced View. I've already synchronized with BAM several times and it doesn't seem to help.

Any projects that you added before using the account manager can only be removed by first removing the account manager, then removing the projects.

Then you can add those projects through the account manager and add that again to BOINC.

It is probably wise to set No New Tasks on all projects, then empty the cache and upload & report everything, before you remove the account manager.

Any actions done on projects added through the account manager are done on the account manager's web site: http://boincstats.com/en/bam/account/ and through the commands on the left of the screen under "My BAM menu".

Any questions you have about the working of BAM are best asked at BAM's forums. Other than it sharing part of the name, BAM is in no way affiliated with BOINC. It's developed independently.

Thanks! I disabled BAM altogether since I wasn't getting much out of it anyway and now it's working. I was mostly hoping someone could figure out why it still recognized my account automatically after I'd uninstalled BOINC the first time. I hadn't thought there would be anything left on the computer to tell it what account it should connect to until I signed in again on the new copy.

Uninstalling BOINC only removes the BOINC executables and libraries, it leaves the data directory with all work, applications, added projects etc. intact.

Else we can never upgrade BOINC without losing days or weeks worth of work. The BOINC installer uninstalls previous versions before installing the newer version.

If you added your projects to BAM through the web interface, you'll also need to assign them to your host under the "Host list". You can simplify this for future hosts if you check the "Attach new host by default?" box on the "My projects" page. And, if you have multiple hosts and add a new project through BAM, you can use the "add/detach all hosts now" option on the same page.

Thanks! I guess I'll figure out where it put the data directory in case I ever want to fully uninstall it.
